Colombianismo. No varía el género: el paisa, la paisa. 1. Apócope de "paisano". 2. Se refiere a los habitantes de los departamentos de Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, norte del Valle del Cauca y noroccidente del Tolima en Colombia. En el departamento de Antioquia, la región del Urabá antioqueño no es considerada "paisa" sino "costeña". 3. Todo lo que identifica culturalmente a la población colombiana de esos departamentos conocidos como "la región paisa". 4. En departamento del Chocó, Pacífico colombiano, todas las personas que vienen del interior del país son llamadas "paisas".

En el Departamento de Antioquia, Colombia, el término "paisa" hace referencia a los arrieros de antaño que se encontraban en los caminos de herradura transportando café, oro y otras mercancías, y, cuando se cruzaban en el camino, el uno le preguntaba al otro de dónde venía. Al reponder, ambos aceptaban que venían del mismo país: Antioquia; por consiguiente, los demás colombianos, al advertir aquel saludo, comenzaron a apodar a los antioqueños como los "paisas", porque decían que venían del mismo país. El "paísa" tiene una idiosincrasia de carácter comercial, muy sobresaliente en Colombia.
Ejemplo : "Esa persona es muy paisa, todo lo quiere convertir en negocio. Cuando se juntan dos paisas, montan un negocio."

Si es amable al saludarle, pero fuerte y decidido al estrechar su mano.

Podrá ser un industrial, un comerciante, un científico, un deportista, un artista, grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer, y en lo que haga será bueno. Cuando haga bien las cosas, elógielo: se lo merece. Cuando le salgan mal, no se lo diga, porque él tendrá el valor de reconocerlo y enmendarlo.
Si lo vé, podrá decirle al mundo que conoció a UN PAISA.
No importa donde haya nacido: porque este ser tan especial es capaz de nacer donde le plazca, sin dejar de ser un paisa.
¿Es regionalista? Sí, porque se siente orgulloso de lo suyo y seguro de lo que es, pero todos los días trabaja por COLOMBIA y lo ama sobre todo y ante todo. Nunca hable de él sin conocerlo. Es tenaz, laborioso, soñador y tierno: es un ser fascinante, se lo juro. ES UN PAISA.
