Persona que acude de forma mediata. Expresión nacida en la época de las salitreras chilenas, ya que quienes realizaban labores de extracción se distanciaban mucho de las Oficinas y para avisarles la colación lo hacían con un disparo o tiro de revolver. Un amigo también indica que en la cordillera al cruzar por un sendero donde cave un sólo jinete, los arrieros avisaban con un disparo al que que venía en dirección opuesta, si era el caso, quien viniera del otro lado debería responder con dos tiros, para que el primero no avanzara (ver Subsole, de Baldomero Lillo; escritor chileno costumbrista). (Este aporte busca complementar lo ya aparecido, buscando entregar explicaciones lógicas).
